I am going to be vunerable for a minute. Is anyone else struggling focus this week? I am. After the murder of Charlie Kirk, I have found it difficult to post on social media. I know I should be posting content, but it just seems "fake" right now in the midst of the turmoil of the week. I keep going to post and just sitting there. I even posted something yesterday, but deleted it because it just felt wrong.
Maybe I am the only feeling this way, but the whole situation is just too close to home. Charlie was just 2 years older than me. He was also married with two beautiful children just like myself. We were both Christians. We were both Americans. We both valued family life. But now he is dead while I still live. Why?
I have felt such soberness this week. Soberness to examine myself and hate my own sins. Soberness to love my wife and children better. Soberness to live my life well unto my Lord - like Charlie. I have a renewed understanding how life is such a gift, yet we never know when it might end. When we might not come home or cannot hug a loved one again. I feel freedom to live each day as a gift, not knowing if today might be my last. Certainly, Charlie did not. Certainly, Ericka and his children didn't. Think about this: His children will never have any memories with their day, but only remember the stories about him. It that okay?
The evil in our country was right in our face this week. The fact that one man could think it reasonable to murder a husband and father just because he disagreed with him is unthinkable. He deemed it right to take away all the memories the Kirk family would have made together over the next 50 years or so. That is just wicked.
Nonetheless, these are my sober reflections on the week. This is where I am at - and that is okay. May God use this tragedy to change the trajectory of our nation. May He strengthen marriages and families, cause us to love each other more, and be thankful for the gift that each day is. May God bless America.
